3 x 1 Mile Relay. Monday 20/06/2011

A wet, wet Monday evening in Battersea Park did not serve to dampen the spirits for a surprisingly fun relay race. The atmosphere was great, thanks in no small part to a large and vocal contingent from London Front Runners who entered about 7 or 8 teams. We entered two teams, comprised on myself, Martin, Kyrsia, Hannah and Melissa, who ran twice, once for each team. The route was a dead flat out and back up South Carriage drive, starting and finishing at the registration tent. I have to say that in spite of the rather grim conditions that this was quite a fun race, the atmosphere was good, it was well organised, started on time and even had a very quick medal ceremony straight afterwards. There was also a good range of runners and speeds, with mile times ranging from under 5 minutes up to 9 minutes. I also have to say that a mile seemed quite short before the race but after 800 metres it was plenty long enough!
We acquitted ourselves admirably, with team one coming in 11th (which annoyingly went down on the results list as Clapham Chasers, grrr) in a time of 17:44 and the second team coming in 31st in 21:51. A special mention has to go to Melissa, who ran two great legs, both in the exactly the same time – 6:33!
We hope to enter this event again with a few more teams from the club so watch this space for further information.
Times:
Niall 5:34
Martin 5:37
Melissa 6:33 (x2)
Kyrsia 7:32
Hannah: 7:46
